Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a procedure performed to expose tooth structure for proper repair.  Often, when a tooth decays or fractures, it requires a restoration such as a filling or crown.  Crown lengthening is a procedure done before the final restoration, to expose healthy tooth structure so that the restoration can be finished on healthy tooth structure.  Performing crown lengthening allows for a better restoration, one that is less likely to experience further decay or fracture.  In addition, crown lengthening is often done to save and repair a tooth, rather than remove it, when the prognosis is questionable.

We believe that many teeth that are chosen for extraction can be saved with crown lengthening, allowing for the preservation of natural teeth.
